In the mid 1990s, Rhino records released a series called "Billboard Top Pop Hits", which covers songs from all 10 years of the 1960's. This volume, which showcases songs from the year 1960, gives the listener an opportunity to hear just exactly which directions popular music was going after the 50s had ended. Opening this CD is the title song to the film "Because They're Young" by Duane Eddy; Brenda Lee took "I'm Sorry" all the way to number one; songs like "Teen Angel" by Mark Dinning and "A Thousand Stars" by Kathy Young & The Innocents have a nostalgic flavor, reflective of the previous decade; novelty songs were a hit, as evidenced by Brian Hyland's "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini", The Fendermen's "Mule Skinner Blues" and Larry Verne's "Mr. Custer"; Connie Francis continued to shine through with "Everybody's Somebody's Fool"; Jackie Wilson gives a bravura performance with the song "Night"; and "Theme from A Summer Place" by Percy Faith went on to become the year's biggest hit. All 10 songs were remastered for superb sound quality. This was only the beginning for one of Rhino's best CD series.
