Blossom Into Love by Norma Jean Lutz (paperback) 1986 Silhouette Romance First Love. 155 pages. Cover shows some wear.
Summering in the hills of Missouri, Latina meets Tully, a boy so perfect that he should be bronzed. He gives up a chance at college to care for his aged mother and retarded sister and is loved or at least respected by all. When Latina meets him, she too becomes perfect. She convinces him to finish high school; helps arrange for him to attend college; and causes the townsfolk to accept the little retarded girl. She also prevents Tully's disturbed cousin from escaping with the child as hostage. The premise of the book is fine; the characters are simply too perfect to be real.
